
India, Ukraine hold high-level talks, push for peaceful resolution, no arms deal signed
Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council Secretary Rustem Umerov held a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi on Friday with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval , focusing on prospects for a “just, lasting and sustainable peace” in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
During the discussions, Umerov briefed the Indian leadership on the current frontline situation and the status of ongoing negotiations. Both sides exchanged views on pathways to end the conflict, with India reaffirming its principled position that the crisis must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy .
In a statement, Jaishankar said the talks covered bilateral cooperation and developments in the conflict , while Umerov described the engagement as “open and substantive” , expressing appreciation for India’s approach and support for peace efforts.
The meetings also reviewed progress on bilateral initiatives outlined during talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kyiv in August 2024, with both sides signalling intent to deepen cooperation across sectors .
No defence or arms deal was announced during the visit. The discussions remained focused on diplomacy, humanitarian concerns, and broader bilateral engagement rather than military collaboration.
Officials indicated that the outcome of the visit reinforces India’s role as a neutral interlocutor advocating peaceful resolution , while Ukraine continues to engage key global partners to build support for ending the conflict.
