India U-19 thrash Australia to seal 2-0 sweep
The next generation of Indian cricket continued to shine brightly as India U-19 clinched an emphatic seven-wicket win over Australia U-19 in the second and final Youth Test, completing a 2-0 clean sweep on Australian soil on Wednesday.
The victory not only highlighted India’s growing depth in youth cricket but also reflected the players’ composure and confidence away from home qualities that have long defined the country’s cricketing rise.
Resuming on day two at 114 for seven, India U-19 fought hard to post 171 all out, securing a crucial 36-run first-innings lead. Despite a modest total, the bowlers maintained relentless pressure. Pacer Henil Patel set the tone with a fiery opening spell, removing Simon Budge and Zed Hollick off successive deliveries to leave Australia reeling at 0 for two. The hosts never recovered, collapsing for just 116 in their second innings.
Chasing 81 for victory, India faced early hiccups as captain Ayush Mhatre and opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi departed cheaply while attempting aggressive strokes on a tricky surface. Suryavanshi, the youngest IPL centurion at just 14, tried to clear the boundary with his very first ball but was caught, while Mhatre was bowled soon after.
However, middle-order batter Vedant Trivedi steadied the ship with an unbeaten 33, guiding India home in just 12.2 overs. His composure under pressure underscored the maturity and discipline of this young side.
For Australia, it was another disappointing outing with the bat as they struggled against India’s incisive attack. Alex Lee Young’s 38 was the only resistance in a batting card dominated by Indian bowlers.
With this triumph, India U-19 not only wrapped up the red-ball series 2-0 but also completed a clean sweep across formats, having earlier blanked Australia in the three-match Youth ODI series.
