Indian boxers delivered an impressive performance at the 46th International Tammer Boxing Tournament in Tampere, Finland, winning 14 medals, including four gold, two silver and eight bronze, to finish at the top of the overall medals tally on Sunday.

Aarti Dhariyal (women’s 54kg), Ankushita Boro (women’s 65kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (women’s 70kg) and Pawan Bartwal (men’s 55kg) secured gold medals for India.

Aarti produced a convincing performance to defeat Scotland’s Kernachan Stephen 5-0, while Ankushita overcame England’s Thompstone Ella 4-1. Commonwealth Games gold medallist Arundhati faced a tougher challenge but managed to beat Ireland’s Igharo Evelyn Ivi 3-2 to claim the top prize.

India also secured two silver medals through Mohammed Hussamuddin (men’s 60kg) and Jaismine (women’s 57kg), who finished second in their respective categories.

Eight other Indian pugilists won bronze medals. The list included Vivek Meena (men’s 65kg), Hitesh (men’s 70kg), Akshay (men’s 80kg), Bobin Chauhan (men’s 90kg), Chetan Choudhary (men’s 90+kg), Tanu (women’s 51kg), Disha Patil (women’s 60kg) and Imroz Khan (women’s 75kg).

India had sent a 14-member squad to the competition, focusing on providing valuable international exposure to boxers ranked third in the country's Olympic weight-category bench strength. The initiative was aimed at strengthening the pool of athletes available for future international competitions.

The annual tournament, which has been organised since 1977, is considered an established event on the international boxing calendar.
