The BWF World Championships will return to India after 17 years , with tickets priced between Rs 499 and Rs 5,500 for fans at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here from August 17 to 23 , the Badminton Association of India (BAI) announced on Monday.

The event, one of the most prestigious in world badminton, will offer around 6,000 spectator seats across multiple categories. Ticketing will be handled by BookMyShow with sales beginning on Monday itself.

BAI said ticket prices will start at Rs 499 under an Early Bird offer , while a total of six seating categories have been introduced for the tournament. Fans can also avail a 15 per cent discount across five categories for a limited period. The premium seating category has been priced at Rs 5,500 , offering a complete matchday experience for spectators.

According to the organisers, ticket sales will be released in phases , starting with the opening four days of competition , while the pricing structure will remain unchanged through to the finals.

BAI secretary general Sanjay Mishra said the aim is to deliver a world-class fan experience. “Our ambition is not just to host a world-class tournament, but to deliver a fan experience that matches the occasion, accessible, seamless and worthy of an event of this stature,” he said. He also highlighted the partnership with BookMyShow to make the event more accessible to fans.

India last hosted the BWF World Championships in 2009 in Hyderabad , making this edition a significant return of the tournament to the country.

The home challenge is expected to be led by India’s top shuttlers, including Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu, and the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty .

The competition will feature several global stars, including Korea’s An Se-young , China’s Shi Yu Qi and Li Shi Feng , and Indonesia’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri , along with strong contingents from Malaysia and Thailand, making it a highly competitive field.
