India Strike Three Golds, Hold Second Spot at Asian U20 Championships

India continued their impressive run at the Asian U20 Championships in Hong Kong with a strong performance on Day 3, winning three gold medals to firmly retain the second spot in the medal standings .

The standout performances came from Nikhil Chandrashekar , Basant , and Shahnavaz Khan , who added to India’s growing confidence at the event. With these victories, India’s gold medal tally rose to seven, building on the four golds secured a day earlier.

Nikhil Chandrashekar opened the golden charge in the 3000m steeplechase , clocking a personal best time of 9:25.44 seconds to claim top honours in a hard fought race.

In the field events, Shahnavaz Khan dominated the men’s long jump , delivering a best effort of 7.84m to secure gold. His compatriot Jithin Arjunan Raman Chandrasekaran also impressed, winning silver with a jump of 7.66m , ensuring a strong Indian presence on the podium.

The third gold of the day came through Basant , who produced a composed performance in the men’s high jump , clearing 2.20m to finish ahead of the field.

India also added a bronze through Aarti , who ran a personal best of 24.12 seconds in the women’s 200m, narrowly ahead of teammate Bhumika Sanjay Nehate, who finished fourth in 24.13 seconds.

China continues to lead the medal tally with ten gold medals, but India’s consistent performances have kept them comfortably in second place as the championships head into the final day.
