India strengthens Afghanistan’s healthcare system with critical medical aid to Kabul
India’s healthcare assistance to Afghanistan was strengthened with the delivery of 73 tonnes of life-saving medicines, vaccines and essential nutritional supplements to Kabul, aimed at addressing urgent medical shortages and supporting overstretched hospitals and healthcare workers. The consignment was sent as part of India’s continuing humanitarian engagement, with a focus placed on meeting critical public health need s and improving access to essential treatment for vulnerable communities across Afghanistan.
The development was formally highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs, with it being stated by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X that “Augmenting Afghanistan’s healthcare efforts. India has delivered 73 tonnes of life-saving medicines, vaccines and essential supplements to Kabul to cater to urgent medical needs. India’s unwavering support to the Afghan people continues.” Through this statement, the sustained nature of India’s humanitarian commitment was underlined, and the emphasis was placed on people-centric support during a period of acute medical stress in Afghanistan.
Alongside the medical assistance, diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries was further reinforced through the recent visit of Afghanistan’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Nooruddin Azizi, to India. During the visit, discussions were held with senior Indian officials on expanding bilateral trade, strengthening supply chain linkages and improving connectivity for the movement of essential goods. The visit was viewed as an attempt to stabilise commercial ties and ensure smoother access to critical imports such as medicines and healthcare products for Afghanistan.
The combination of large-scale medical aid and renewed diplomatic engagement was seen as a coordinated effort to augment Afghanistan’s healthcare capacity while also laying the groundwork for more reliable long-term cooperation. Through these parallel tracks of humanitarian support and economic dialogue, India’s continuing solidarity with the Afghan people was reinforced, with priority being given to health, stability and essential human needs.
