India Signs Off with Double Gold as Anand Singh Breaks Into 80m Club at Asian U23 Meet

India wrapped up its campaign at the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships with a flourish on Sunday as Anand Singh and the women’s 4x400m relay team captured gold medals, helping the country finish with an impressive 16-medal haul .

The standout moment came in the men’s javelin throw, where Anand produced a sensational effort of 80.57m in his final attempt. The throw not only secured the gold medal but also saw the young Indian enter the prestigious 80-metre club while registering a new personal best. Fellow Indian Shivam Lohakare added to the celebrations by claiming the bronze medal with a throw of 77.70m .

India’s women continued the golden run in the 4x400m relay . The quartet of Shravani Sachin Sangle, Sandramol Sabu, Pravallika Narimalla and Nofisa Khatun combined brilliantly to clock 3:33.62 , comfortably ahead of China (3:35.14) and Kazakhstan (3:37.65) .

The women’s 4x100m relay team also impressed, earning a silver medal in 44.68 seconds . The team featured Sanjana, Akshaya Saravanan, Sudheeksha V and Shreeya Rajesh , while China took gold.

Another silver came in the men’s 4x400m relay , where Astik Pradhan, Sharan Megavarnam, Setu Mishra and Aman Choudhary clocked 3:04.24 , finishing behind China and ahead of Qatar.

With 3 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze medals , India concluded the championships with confidence, underlining the depth of emerging talent in Indian athletics and offering an encouraging glimpse into the future of the sport.
