
India Sign Off with 17 Medals at Asian U15 and U17 Boxing Championships
India wrapped up a strong campaign at the Asian Boxing U15 and U17 Championships in Tashkent with a total of 17 medals , underlining the growing depth of its youth boxing structure. The haul included two gold, seven silver, and eight bronze medals , with the girls delivering the standout performances across categories.
The U17 girls’ squad emerged as the backbone of India’s success, contributing 12 medals , including both golds. Rakhi (46kg) produced a commanding performance in the final, winning by Referee Stopped Contest against Uzbekistan’s Rukhshonabonu Ahadova. Navya (57kg) added the second gold with a confident 4 to 0 victory over Japan’s Sara Kono, sealing India’s top podium finishes.
Several Indian boxers also fought hard but finished just short of gold. Khushi Chand (48kg) secured silver after going down 1 to 4 against Japan’s Arisa Yoshinaga. In other finals, Diya (63kg) and Himanshi (70kg) each took silver after losing to strong Uzbek opponents. Jyoti (75kg) and Vanshika (80kg) also settled for silver and bronze respectively after facing tough bouts against boxers from Kazakhstan. In the 80 plus kg category, Gurseerat Kaur showed resilience but narrowly missed gold in a close 2 to 3 contest.
Among the boys, India added more to the tally with one silver and four bronze medals . Lakshay Phogat (75kg) earned silver after a tough final against Uzbekistan’s Marufjon Toshpulatov.
With young boxers across weight categories stepping onto the podium, India’s campaign highlighted both promise and competitiveness, especially in the girls’ division, which clearly led the charge in Tashkent.
