India Showcases Seven Regional Biryanis at Singapore Food Festival
Singapore is hosting a vibrant celebration of India’s culinary diversity with the second edition of The Great Indian Biryani Festival , showcasing seven regional biryanis from across the country as part of efforts to promote “Incredible India” in the city-state.
Organised by the High Commission of India, the festival is being held from May 11 to May 24 and has attracted enthusiastic responses from food lovers and tourists alike. Diners are being treated to authentic biryanis from Hyderabad , Lucknow , Delhi , Kolkata , Kerala’s Thalassery , and Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul and Ambur regions.
Indian High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule said the initiative aims to present Singaporeans with different facets of India’s rich cultural heritage through food.
“This festival is part of our initiatives to present different facets of Incredible India to Singapore. I am sure that the taste of renowned Indian biryanis will motivate them to know more about India and visit India,” Ambule said.
According to the Indian mission, guests at the opening event appreciated the aromatic spices, layered flavours and distinct regional cooking styles that make biryani one of India’s most celebrated dishes.
Matthew Bennink , Director of Food and Beverage at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, said each biryani reflects the history and culture of its region.
“From the fragrant Awadhi style of Lucknow to the robust spices of Hyderabad and the distinctive South Indian variants, every biryani tells a story,” Bennink said, adding that the response from diners had been “extremely encouraging”.
The specially curated menu has been prepared using authentic regional recipes and traditional cooking techniques by guest chefs from Shangri-La Singapore, Shangri-La Eros New Delhi and Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa.
