India, Russia, Pakistan among dozens invited to Trump’s Gaza ‘Board of Peace’

India , Russia and Pakistan are among dozens of countries invited by US President Donald Trump to join the proposed “Board of Peace” , a new international body projected by Washington as a mechanism to bring lasting peace , stability and reconstruction to Gaza , while potentially addressing wider global conflicts .

India received the invitation on January 16 through a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi , later shared publicly by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor . However, New Delhi has not clarified whether it will accept the offer, with former diplomats and strategic experts saying there is currently “no clarity” on the board’s structure , mandate and long-term implications .

In his invitation letter, Trump described the initiative as a “critically historic and magnificent effort” to solidify peace in the Middle East and embark on a “bold new approach to resolving Global Conflict” . Announcing its formation earlier this month, the US president said the Board of Peace would be “the greatest and most prestigious Board ever assembled.”

Russia has also confirmed receiving an invitation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin was approached through diplomatic channels and that Moscow is studying the proposal while seeking further clarifications. Russian state television noted that the initiative is being viewed as a possible alternative multilateral platform , amid perceptions of declining effectiveness of existing global institutions.

Pakistan acknowledged receiving the invitation as well, with officials saying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would remain engaged with international efforts aimed at achieving a lasting solution to the Palestine issue in line with United Nations resolutions .

According to US officials, invitations have been extended to heads of nearly 60 nations , including Turkiye , Egypt , Jordan , Greece , Cyprus , Hungary , Canada , Argentina , Germany , the UK and Australia . International media reports citing draft charter documents say members may seek permanent seats by contributing at least USD 1 billion , with funds earmarked for Gaza’s reconstruction .

The White House has said the Board of Peace forms the core of Trump’s 20-point roadmap , which includes transforming Gaza into a de-radicalised , terror-free zone while ensuring redevelopment for the benefit of its population. The UN Security Council , in November 2025 , adopted Resolution 2803 , endorsing this vision.

A founding executive board has already been announced, comprising Marco Rubio , Tony Blair , Steve Witkoff , Jared Kushner , Ajay Banga , Marc Rowan and Robert Gabriel , along with representatives from key regional stakeholders.

Israel , however, has objected to the executive committee, saying it was not coordinated with it, reflecting unease as a growing number of international observers of stature assume oversight roles. Diplomats note that such multilateral scrutiny could make continued indiscriminate military actions increasingly difficult to justify.

While opinions on Trump remain sharply divided globally, analysts say the initiative reflects a rare attempt at structured international supervision , suggesting that with many powerful nations watching closely, the space for unilateral actions in Gaza may be narrowing.
