India rises at ISSF World Championship, secures 13-medal haul

India concluded its campaign at the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Cairo with an impressive 13 medals, underscoring the nation’s growing strength in shooting. The tally comprised three gold, six silver, and four bronze medals, placing India third overall behind China in first and South Korea in second.

Olympian Gurpreet Singh narrowly missed out on gold in the 25m Centre Fire Pistol event, losing to Ukraine’s Pavlo Korostylov on inner 10’s in a thrilling finish at the Olympic Shooting Range. Gurpreet, who had previously won silver at the 2018 World Championships in Changwon, shot a total of 584-18x over two days. After a modest start in the precision stage (288-8x), he staged a strong comeback in the rapid stage (296-10x) to claim silver, while Korostylov edged him out with a perfect final score.

Harpreet Singh, in contention after the precision stage with 291-10x, finished ninth following a 286-6x rapid stage, while Sahil Choudhary ended 28th overall. The Indian trio narrowly missed a team medal, finishing fifth.

Gold medals were claimed by Samrat Rana in 10m Air Pistol, Ravinder Singh in 50m Standard Pistol, and the 10m Men’s Air Pistol Team. Silver medals came from Gurpreet Singh, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Anish Bhanwala, Esha Singh, Samrat Rana, and the respective mixed and team events. Bronze medals were added by Esha Singh, Elavenil Valarivan, Varun Tomar, and the 10m Women’s Air Rifle Team.

With this performance, India not only showcased individual brilliance but also reinforced its position as a rising powerhouse in global shooting.
