India Registers Historic Showing at 10th World Junior Wushu Championship

India delivered a historic performance at the 10th World Junior Wushu Championship , held in Tianjin, China from March 26 to 30, securing a total of nine medals , including three gold , marking one of its best-ever results at this global junior event.

The championships, organised under the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) at the Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium , featured young athletes from 78 countries and regions , making this the largest edition in the event’s history.

India’s medal haul comprised three gold, two silver and four bronze medals , with standout performances in both Sanda (fighting) and Taolu (artistic) events. In Sanda, Thongam Upendro (Boys 45kg) , Nongmaithem Pamheiba (Junior Boys 52kg) , and Loitongbam Victor (Youth Boys 52kg) claimed gold medals. Yuvraj won silver in the 48kg Youth category, while Gautam Mankas (48kg Junior) and Anu (48kg Youth) earned bronze. In Taolu, Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu took bronze in Changquan Girls, while Konthoujam Devikarani Devi secured a silver and a bronze.

Although India’s performance was impressive, it was behind the leading nations in the medal tally. Hong Kong, China topped the table with 13 gold, seven silver and six bronze medals , followed by host China with 13 gold and four silver medals , and Indonesia in third place with nine gold, 11 silver and seven bronze medals .

With participation of over 1,100 athletes , the championship highlighted the growing competitiveness of junior wushu worldwide and provided a key platform for India’s athletes to gain international experience ahead of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar , where wushu will make its Olympic debut.
