India Post to launch 24-hour and 48-hour guaranteed mail and parcel delivery

India Post is gearing up to launch a new guarantee-based service for mails and parcels, offering 24-hour and 48-hour delivery timelines, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Friday. The move is part of a larger effort to modernize India’s postal network and improve service efficiency nationwide.

According to the minister, the 24-hour Speed Post service will ensure that mails reach their destination within a single day, while a 48-hour Speed Post service will deliver within two days. “We are introducing new products with guaranteed delivery timelines for both mail and parcels,” Scindia said, underlining the emphasis on reliability and speed.

The government also plans to roll out next-day parcel delivery services, which will reduce the current delivery period that typically ranges from three to five days. This is expected to significantly enhance customer experience, particularly for time-sensitive shipments.

Highlighting the broader vision for India Post, Scindia said the government aims to transform the organization from a “cost centre” to a “profit centre” by 2029. This will involve modernizing operations, leveraging technology, and introducing innovative services to compete with private courier and logistics companies.

Experts note that these changes could make India Post more competitive in the e-commerce and logistics sector, which has seen rapid growth in recent years. Faster and reliable delivery services are expected to attract more business from both individuals and commercial clients, further strengthening India Post’s revenue model.
