India’s ODI squad is set to embark on their much-anticipated tour of Australia in two separate batches on October 15, with travel schedules hinging on logistics and ticket availability. The tour will see India contest a three-match ODI series, followed by a five-match T20I series Down Under.

According to sources in the BCCI, one group of players will depart in the morning, while the second batch is expected to fly out later in the evening, depending on the availability of business class seats for the long-haul journey.

Veteran stars and former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with newly appointed vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, are slated to join the rest of the Test squad members in New Delhi before departure. “Virat and Rohit are likely to arrive in the capital either on the day of departure or a day earlier,” a source said.

The squad will fly to Perth, where the first ODI is scheduled for October 19. If ongoing domestic or international commitments conclude earlier than expected, players could be granted a short break to visit their families before regrouping in Delhi for the tour. India are currently hosting West Indies for the second and final Test from October 10-14.

In a notable development, Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of India’s ODI side, taking over the reins from Rohit Sharma. Despite ongoing speculation about their long-term ODI careers, both Rohit and Kohli are reportedly eager to continue playing through the 2027 ODI World Cup, even as India faces a relatively light schedule of 50-over fixtures leading up to the marquee tournament.

Ahead of the tour, head coach Gautam Gambhir hosted a team dinner at his residence in Rajinder Nagar, aimed at strengthening team spirit and camaraderie before the squad departs for Australia.

With key leaders, rising stars, and a fresh captain at the helm, India will hope to start their Australian tour on a strong note, blending experience with youth across formats.
