India and the Nordic countries on Tuesday decided to elevate their bilateral engagement to a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership , aiming to strengthen cooperation in clean energy, sustainable technologies, trade, investments, and the blue economy.

The decision was announced during the 3rd India-Nordic Summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with his counterparts from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden.

Addressing a joint press statement after the summit, Modi said the new partnership would help promote sustainable development and support global efforts towards a greener future through innovation-driven cooperation.

The Nordic nations are regarded as global leaders in areas such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, offshore wind projects, sustainable urban planning, electric mobility, waste management, and climate-friendly technologies. Through the partnership, India is expected to benefit from technology transfer, research collaboration, and green investments in key sectors.

The cooperation is also expected to support India’s clean energy transition by accelerating developments in sustainable infrastructure, battery storage, circular economy practices, and low-carbon technologies. It could further create opportunities for Indian startups, industries, and research institutions to collaborate with Nordic companies and innovation centres.

Modi said India and the Nordic countries are united by shared democratic values, trust, and a commitment towards human-centric development. He added that both sides would continue working together to strengthen the rules-based global order amid rising global tensions and conflicts.

The leaders also exchanged views on international issues, including Ukraine and West Asia, and reiterated support for peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

Modi further said both sides agreed that reforms in multilateral institutions are necessary and urgent to effectively address emerging global challenges.
