
India, Nepal Discuss Expanding Health Cooperation and Medical Infrastructure Support
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava on Tuesday held talks with Nepal’s Minister for Health, Population and Water Supply Nisha Mehta on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector, with discussions focusing on specialised treatment centres, medical institutions and healthcare infrastructure development.
The meeting took place at the Health Ministry in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, where both sides reviewed the long-standing relationship between India and Nepal and explored ways to deepen collaboration in healthcare, sanitation and water supply. Nepal’s Health Ministry said the talks covered “various dimensions” of cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
According to ministry spokesperson Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, discussions included plans to strengthen Nepal’s major national-level health science academies , establish specialised treatment centres , and make Indian assistance in Nepal’s overall health infrastructure more effective in the coming years.
During the meeting, Ambassador Srivastava also congratulated Mehta on her recent appointment as Health Minister and wished her a successful tenure. Mehta thanked the Indian government for its continued support in Nepal’s healthcare , drinking water , and sanitation sectors .
Mehta, who assumed office in March this year, has a professional background in nursing and public health and studied in India before entering politics.
India remains one of Nepal’s key development partners, particularly in healthcare, where it has supported hospital construction, medical training, infrastructure projects and emergency medical assistance over the years.
