India has been designated as the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026 , the world’s largest and most influential trade fair for organic food and agriculture, being held from February 10 to 13 in Nuremberg, Germany. The recognition highlights India’s growing prominence in the global organic agriculture sector and its expanding footprint in international organic trade.

BIOFACH is a premier global platform for certified organic products, bringing together producers, exporters, buyers, policymakers and certification bodies from across the world. The annual event is organised by NürnbergMesse GmbH , one of Europe’s leading exhibition organisers, with strong support from global organic agriculture bodies. It serves as a key marketplace and networking hub for the organic food and farming industry.

India’s participation at BIOFACH 2026 is being coordinated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. As Country of the Year, India has set up a 1,074-square-metre country pavilion featuring 67 co-exhibitors, including exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, organic laboratories, state agencies and commodity boards from more than 20 states and Union Territories.

The India Pavilion is showcasing a wide range of organic products such as rice, spices, oilseeds, pulses, herbs, cashew, ginger, turmeric, essential oils and value-added food items. Live food tastings, including GI-tagged heritage rice varieties, are also being organised to highlight India’s agricultural diversity and traditional strengths.

The Country of the Year recognition is expected to significantly boost India’s organic exports by enhancing global visibility, strengthening buyer confidence and facilitating direct engagement between Indian exporters and international markets. With global demand rising for sustainably produced and certified organic food, the recognition reinforces India’s position as a reliable supplier and supports its long-term goal of emerging as a leading organic food basket of the world.
