India went down 0-2 to England in the final of the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup Qualifier , but the runner-up finish was enough to seal their place in this year’s Women’s Hockey World Cup , which will be jointly hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium.

England, ranked world No. 6 , capitalised on their opportunities and maintained defensive discipline to clinch the title. The opening goal came early when Grace Balsdon converted a penalty corner in the 13th minute , giving the English side a crucial lead.

Despite the early setback, India, currently ranked ninth in the world , tried to regain control of the match by pressing forward and creating attacking moves. However, the English defence remained compact and prevented the hosts from finding an equaliser in the first half.

England extended their advantage in the third quarter when Elizabeth Neal struck a field goal in the 43rd minute , doubling the lead and putting India under pressure. The goal proved decisive as the Indian side struggled to penetrate England’s organised backline in the remaining minutes.

India continued to push forward and attempted to build momentum with sustained possession and attacking runs, but they were unable to convert their chances into goals. England’s defensive structure held firm throughout the full 60 minutes , ensuring that the scoreline remained unchanged.

Although the defeat denied India the title, the team still achieved its primary objective of qualifying for the upcoming Women’s Hockey World Cup . Along with champions England and runner-up India, Scotland also secured qualification from the tournament after registering a narrow 1-0 victory over Italy .

The qualifier tournament thus determined three teams advancing to the global showpiece event, where India will now look to regroup and prepare for a stronger campaign on the world stage.
