India honors Lata Mangeshkar, Bhagat Singh on birth anniversaries amid online row

India paid heartfelt tributes on Sunday to two of its most iconic figures revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar marking their 118th and 96th birth anniversaries, respectively.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the 126th episode of his monthly address Mann Ki Baat , recalled Bhagat Singh’s courage and sacrifice in the struggle for independence, calling him “a symbol of fearless patriotism.” He also remembered Lata Mangeshkar as “the voice of India,” noting her unparalleled contribution to music and culture.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and several leaders across party lines joined the nation in paying homage. While Bhagat Singh remains an enduring inspiration for generations of Indians, Mangeshkar’s music continues to transcend time. Known as the Nightingale of India , she recorded over 25,000 songs in multiple languages across an illustrious career spanning more than seven decades, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema and cultural heritage.
