India’s hockey team got off to a disappointing start in the FIH Pro League 2025-26 , losing 0-2 to Spain at the Tasmania Hockey Centre . The defeat marks India’s fifth consecutive loss, following a challenging home leg where they scored just five goals while conceding 19.

Spain opened the scoring in the 6th minute through Ignacio Abajo , who capitalized on a sharp midfield split. The visitors doubled their advantage in the 36th minute , as Ignacio Cobos converted a set-piece opportunity. Despite a resilient defence that repelled five penalty corners , India could not convert their lone chance.

With Harmanpreet Singh sidelined, Hardik Singh captained the side, while Suraj Karkera guarded the goalpost. Hockey India expressed disappointment over the performance, as fans lamented Spain’s control from start to finish.

Next up, India face Australia on 22 February 2026 at the Tasmania Hockey Centre , a crucial clash for maintaining momentum in the World Cup qualifying campaign .
