India highlights rail modernisation at Asia's largest IREE 2025

India is set to showcase its growing role in global rail modernisation at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025, Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest railway technology show. Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with Indian Railways, the event will be held at Bharat Mandapam from October 15 to October 27, bringing together leading domestic and international players to display advancements in railway equipment and safety systems.

The sidelines of the event, B. Thiagarajan, Chairman of the CII Trade Fair Council, said, “This is the 16th edition of the exhibition. We have more than 450 exhibitors participating. The focus is on railway modernisation, technology, safety, and creating business opportunities for MSMEs and large enterprises to collaborate with Indian Railways, aligning with its vision of providing world-class, safe, and comfortable travel for passengers.”

The exhibition will serve as a platform for industries and government bodies to engage on future-ready rail technologies. Key areas on display include advanced rolling stock, digital signalling, track innovation, and passenger safety systems, supporting India’s ambition to transform its railways into a global benchmark for efficiency and comfort.

India’s rail sector has witnessed significant growth in recent years, with domestic manufacturers emerging as leading suppliers of rolling stock and railway safety equipment. Indian firms are exporting to countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, and Australia, strengthening India’s position as a reliable partner in the global railway market.

According to CII, the domestic railway market in India is valued at approximately Rs 2.5 lakh crore (USD 30 billion), while the global market stands at an estimated USD 360 billion. With continued modernisation and increasing participation in international supply chains, India is poised to expand its share of the global railway sector in the coming years.
