India Gifts 10 Mobile Hospital Units Called ‘BHISHM Cubes’ To Jamaica During Jaishankar’s Visit

India handed over 10 mobile hospital units called “BHISHM Cubes” to Jamaica during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit, marking a significant step in humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.

The portable emergency medical units, designed for rapid deployment in disaster and crisis situations, were presented during Jaishankar’s meeting with Prime Minister Andrew Holness. The initiative aims to enhance Jamaica’s disaster response capacity and strengthen its public healthcare support systems.

During his discussions with Foreign Minister Kamina J Smith and senior Cabinet members, Jaishankar conducted an in-depth review of bilateral ties , spanning sectors such as health, education, agriculture, digital technology, tourism, infrastructure, and capacity building, along with key multilateral issues .

He emphasised that “as we diversify and seek reliable partners, the imperative to deepen India-Jamaica business ties is stronger,” highlighting the growing importance of economic engagement. Both sides agreed to expand trade and skilled workforce mobility , with opportunities identified for nurses, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

Jaishankar also described Jamaica as a gateway to the Caribbean , urging stakeholders to explore bilateral and regional economic cooperation more actively. He interacted with industry leaders and appreciated Industry Minister Aubyn Hill for facilitating business discussions.

Adding a cultural note, Jaishankar referred to the connection from Old Harbour to Sabina Park , underlining cricket as a shared legacy that strengthens people-to-people ties.

India’s support further includes rural livelihood initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and assistance such as medical teams, dialysis units, and relief supplies . Both countries also reaffirmed cooperation on global issues including climate action, Global South priorities, UN reforms, and counter-terrorism.
