In a significant development for India’s energy security, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) on Thursday received an India-flagged vessel carrying 15,400 tonnes of LPG , marking a crucial addition to the country’s domestic supply .

The vessel, Green Asha , successfully navigated the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz despite ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran, United States, and Israel. Officials described the arrival as a notable milestone , as it is the first such shipment to reach the port since the onset of the conflict in West Asia.

According to JNPA, the vessel safely docked at the liquid cargo berth operated by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited. Authorities confirmed that both the cargo and crew were secure , underscoring the resilience of maritime operations even under challenging global conditions.

The arrival is expected to strengthen India’s domestic LPG supply, supporting the country’s energy distribution network as global fuel shipments stabilize following the recent ceasefire. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global oil and gas transit, continues to be closely monitored, though immediate concerns over supply disruptions have eased in the wake of reduced tensions.

Located in Navi Mumbai, JNPA also known as Nhava Sheva is one of India’s key ports handling both containerised and liquid cargo. Officials noted that uninterrupted operations at such strategic ports are essential to maintaining stable energy supplies across the country.

The successful transit and delivery highlight India’s ability to secure essential energy resources even amid complex geopolitical challenges, offering reassurance over the continuity of LPG availability for domestic consumption.
