The Indian men’s football team bowed out of the Unity Cup 2026 after suffering a 2-0 defeat against a dominant Jamaica in the semifinal at The Valley, London on Wednesday night.

A sensational early strike from Courtney Clarke and a brilliant second-half effort by Kaheim Dixon sealed Jamaica’s place in the final, while India were left to rue missed opportunities and defensive lapses in a contest where they struggled to match the Caribbean side’s pace and precision.

India endured the worst possible start as Jamaica struck within the opening eight minutes. A swift counterattack exposed gaps in the Indian defence, forcing goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu into an initial save. However, the clearance fell kindly for Clarke, who calmly shifted the ball onto his right foot before curling a stunning shot into the top corner.

Jamaica continued to threaten with their attacking movement and physical presence, repeatedly stretching India’s backline. Dixon nearly doubled the lead in the 17th minute, but Sandhu produced another impressive save to keep the Blue Tigers in the contest.

Despite enjoying spells of possession later in the first half, India lacked creativity in the attacking third. Lallianzuala Chhangte , Ryan Williams and Edmund Lalrindika found it difficult to break through Jamaica’s organised defence as India failed to register any serious attempt on goal before halftime.

The Blue Tigers showed greater urgency after the break and briefly appeared capable of staging a comeback. India thought they had equalised in the 53rd minute after a Jamaican defensive error allowed Roshan to set up Rahim Ali , but the move was ruled offside before Chhangte converted into an empty net.

The missed opportunity lifted India’s confidence and Khalid Jamil’s men enjoyed their best spell of the match, pressing higher and moving the ball with more intent.

However, Jamaica crushed India’s hopes in the 78th minute when Dixon produced a moment of individual brilliance. The winger dribbled past defenders with ease before firing a low shot into the far corner to put the result beyond doubt.

India will now face Zimbabwe in the third-place playoff, while Jamaica take on Nigeria in the final.
