India finish strong Bumrah, Gill stand out in 2–1 T20I series win

India clinched the five–match T20I series against Australia 2–1 after the final match at The Gabba in Brisbane was abandoned due to rain and thunderstorms. The result capped off a strong turnaround for Suryakumar Yadav’s young side, which bounced back impressively after losing the second match in Sydney. India looked set to finish the series with another strong batting show as Gill and Abhishek started aggressively in the decider, racing to 52 without loss in just 4.5 overs, before the rain forced the match to be abandoned. The series also offered several key takeaways for India ahead of the World Cup preparation cycle. Shubman Gill crossed 150 runs across his three knocks, significantly improving India’s Powerplay scoring rate, an area which had been inconsistent in the last two ICC events. Abhishek Sharma showed signs of emerging into a stable left-hand opening option, giving India tactical flexibility. Jasprit Bumrah finished with seven wickets at an economy below six, reinforcing the belief that he is returning to his strongest rhythm. Axar Patel impressed both with his control and fielding impact, while Varun Chakravarthy demonstrated that India can deploy two spinners effectively even in Australian conditions.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav said that the most encouraging factor throughout the series was the team’s ability to shift momentum after the initial setback. He stated that playing at home during a World Cup carries pressure but equally inspires performance responsibility, reflecting that this was a major morale boost before the global tournament.
