
India Finish on Top of Medal Table with 16 Medals in ISSF Junior World Cup
India ended their campaign at the ISSF Junior Shooting World Cup on a high note, securing a place at the top of the medal tally with a total of 16 medals , including five gold, six silver, and five bronze , after a strong final day performance.
On the concluding day, Hemant Burman clinched the silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event with a final score of 351.7 , showcasing consistency across kneeling, prone, and standing stages. The 18-year-old had entered the final in seventh place from qualification with a score of 578-24x .
India had three shooters in the final of the same event. While Vedant Nitin Waghmare scored 300.5 to finish seventh, Rohit Kanyan placed sixth with 311.9 , adding depth to India’s strong presence in the final round.
The gold medal went to Oleg Noskov of Kazakhstan , who set a new world junior record with a stunning score of 355.6 , while Nikita Solokov of Uzbekistan secured bronze with 341.2 .
In the final event of the tournament, the Indian mixed trap team of Zuhair Khan and Addya Katyal added another medal to the tally, winning bronze with a final score of 19 . The duo had shown promise early in the medal round but lost momentum in the third series, eventually slipping to third place.
The gold in the mixed trap event went to Hungary’s Bence Doeboerhegyi and Anna Nyitrai , who also set a new junior world record with 32 , while neutral athletes Ramir Nikolaev and Kseniia Tatarinova took silver.
In the women’s 50m rifle prone event, Indian shooters Tejal Nathawat, Yugeshwari Bais, Anushka Thokur, and Khwaish Sharma could not make it to the medal rounds.
With the Cairo campaign concluding, the Indian junior squad will now prepare for their next big challenge — the ISSF Junior World Championship in Suhl, Germany , scheduled for June.
