India fined for slow over-rate after loss to Australia

India were slapped with a fine for a slow over-rate during their thrilling Women’s ODI World Cup clash against Australia here on Sunday. The hosts lost by three wickets as Australia completed a record chase in a high-scoring contest.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday that India would forfeit five per cent of their match fees after being one over short of the target, even after time allowances were considered. The penalty was imposed by Michell Periera of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers minimum over-rate offences.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted the breach and accepted the sanction, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was formally leveled by on-field umpires Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Kim Cotton and fourth umpire Jacquline Williams.

India now turn their attention to a must-win clash against England on Sunday at Indore.
