India eyes green hydrogen collaboration with Sembcorp, says Goyal

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met Kim Yin Wong, CEO of Sembcorp, on October 4 to discuss opportunities in renewable energy, clean energy, green hydrogen, industrial parks, and skill development. Sembcorp, headquartered in Singapore, is a leading energy and urban development company specializing in renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and industrial solutions across multiple countries.The meeting highlighted India’s commitment to sustainable growth and global energy partnerships.

Goyal, sharing updates on social media, emphasized India’s remarkable achievements in renewable energy and potential areas for collaboration. He also addressed the “India-Singapore@60: Partnership for Growth and Innovation” session, promoting B2B opportunities and strengthened trade ties between the two countries, while underlining the importance of a balanced, inclusive, and future-ready economic partnership.

During his three-day official visit to Singapore, Goyal engaged with key leaders, including Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, focusing on enhancing industrial, trade, and strategic cooperation. Discussions also covered investment in manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, and the green economy, reaffirming India’s position as a reliable and growth-oriented global partner.

Goyal also met with top executives from GIC and Temasek, exploring ways to scale up India-focused portfolios across sectors like renewable energy, hospitality, infrastructure, and urban development. A major highlight was the Business Roundtable on FDI in manufacturing, attended by AmCham, EuroCham, the German Chamber of Industry & Commerce, and other leading business figures.

At SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), talks focused on India’s fast-growing Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) sector and advancing the India-Singapore Skilling Centre for MRO professionals in partnership with Indian universities, signaling a strong emphasis on skill development alongside industrial growth.

The engagements underscored India’s rapid growth trajectory, investment-led reforms, and vast opportunities for global partners, reinforcing India’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and innovation-driven economic development.
