
India energy week 2026 positions India as global energy hub: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 via video conferencing, emphasizing India’s emergence as a global energy hub offering investment opportunities worth USD 500 billion across oil, gas, LNG, refining, petrochemicals, biofuels, and clean energy. Delegates from nearly 125 countries gathered in Goa to discuss energy security, sustainability, and the global energy transition.
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy , with rising domestic energy demand, and as one of the top five exporters of petroleum products supplying to over 150 nations. He underscored the recent India–European Union Free Trade Agreement , describing it as a historic deal that will strengthen trade, global supply chains, investor confidence, and key sectors such as textiles, gems and jewellery, leather, and footwear.
At the Curtain Raiser Press Conference in New Delhi, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said IEW has established itself as a comprehensive global platform , covering the full energy spectrum from oil and gas to biofuels, green hydrogen, and compressed biogas with a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship .
Speaking at IEW, Minister Puri emphasized India’s reforms-driven approach to energy security, self-reliance, and climate justice under PM Modi’s leadership. He highlighted initiatives including Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) , deep-sea exploration through the Samudra Manthan Mission , expansion of city gas networks, and clean cooking fuel coverage, all aimed at making energy accessible, affordable, and sustainable .
The UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber , noted that India sits at the heart of global energy transformation, driven by emerging markets, digitalization, and integration of diverse energy systems. He stressed the need for balanced investment across all energy sources to ensure security, affordability, and sustainability, reaffirming the UAE’s long-term partnership with India in crude oil, LNG, and LPG supply.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant welcomed delegates, highlighting the state’s vision for sustainable development, including a roadmap for 100% renewable energy by 2050 , and underscoring the balance between a green economy and blue economy .
The inaugural session reinforced India’s role as a responsible global energy leader , with focus on international cooperation, innovation, and investment mobilization as key drivers for the global energy transition.
India Energy Week, held from January 27–30 at ONGC ATI, Goa , is the country’s flagship energy platform, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to accelerate a secure, sustainable, and affordable energy future .
