India dominates Asian Archery Championships with record six golds

India’s archers delivered a historic performance at the 2025 Asian Archery Championships, finishing at the top of the medal table with a total of 10 medals, including a record six golds, surpassing traditional powerhouse South Korea. The week-long competition, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from November 8 to 14, was historic as it ended an 18-year gold medal drought in the recurve men’s team event and saw multiple individual and compound titles for India.

The standout achievement came in the recurve men’s team event, where Atanu Das, Yashdeep Bhoge, and Rahul Pawariya ended an 18-year gold medal drought by narrowly defeating South Korea 5-4. In individual recurve events, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat also clinched golds, both triumphing over Korean opponents, highlighting India’s growing dominance in the sport.

On the compound side, India’s archers continued their strong form, with Jyothi Surekha Vennam leading the charge to secure three golds and two silver medals. The performances across both recurve and compound categories reflect a deepening pool of talent in Indian archery.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the team’s achievements, calling it India’s “best ever performance” at the Asian Archery Championships and emphasizing that these victories would inspire the next generation of athletes.

With this record haul, India not only reclaimed the top spot in Asia but also sent a clear message about its rising stature in international archery. The 2025 edition of the championships will be remembered as a landmark moment in the country’s sporting history.
