India Crush Australia 5-0 to Storm into Thomas Cup Quarterfinals

India delivered a flawless and dominant performance to march into the quarterfinals of the Thomas Cup Finals , registering a comprehensive 5-0 sweep over Australia in their Group A encounter here on Monday.

The win ensured India remained firmly placed at the top of the group alongside China, setting up a crucial clash between the two unbeaten sides on Wednesday to decide the group topper.

The 2022 champions had earlier begun their campaign with a solid 4-1 win over Canada , while China also maintained momentum with commanding wins over Australia and Canada.

India started strongly with Paris Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen setting the tone. He outclassed Ephraim Stephen Sam 21-14, 21-16 to give India an early advantage.

Young shuttler Ayush Shetty continued the dominance with a clinical display against Shrey Dhand. The US Open champion, who recently finished runner up at the Badminton Asia Championships, won convincingly 21-8, 21-6 .

The momentum stayed firmly with India as the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty , the Asian Games champions, overpowered Rizky Hidayat and Jack Yu 21-14, 21-16 to seal the tie at 3-0.

HS Prannoy added further authority to India’s performance with a controlled win over Rishi Honda Boopathy. The experienced shuttler, a World Championships bronze medallist and Asian Games medallist, secured a 21-11, 21-17 victory in under 30 minutes.

India completed the clean sweep in the second doubles as Hariharan Amsakarunan and M R Arjun defeated Andika Ramadiansyah and Ephraim Stephen Sam 21-12, 21-10 , ensuring a perfect 5-0 result without dropping a single match .

With this emphatic win, India not only booked their place in the quarterfinals but also sent a strong statement with their depth, discipline, and consistency across all categories.
