India Condemns Attack On Merchant Vessel Off Oman Coast, 10 Indians Rescued As One Goes Missing

India on Sunday condemned the attack on a commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman , which had 11 Indian nationals onboard, and called for an immediate end to attacks targeting civilian shipping and infrastructure in the region.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that 10 Indian nationals have been rescued , while one Indian crew member remains missing. The Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation.

"We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, earlier today. Of the 11 Indian nationals on board, 10 have been rescued so far, while 1 Indian National is reportedly missing," the MEA said in a statement.

India also thanked the Omani authorities for their assistance in rescue efforts and said the repeated attacks on commercial shipping in the region were a matter of serious concern.

The MEA urged all sides to work towards immediate de-escalation of tensions and called for diplomatic efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

"The targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region must end," the ministry said, stressing the need to restore free and uninterrupted navigation and commerce through international waterways in accordance with international law.

The incident comes amid growing concerns over security threats faced by merchant vessels in key maritime routes. India reiterated that ensuring safe passage for global shipping is essential for maintaining regional and international trade stability.

Authorities in Oman, along with Indian officials, continue efforts to locate the missing Indian national and investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
