India delivered a commanding performance to defeat Uganda 35-15 and win the women's title at the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship in Ahmedabad on Saturday, completing an unbeaten campaign to claim the historic gold medal.

Sakshi was the standout performer for India, collecting nine raid points from 10 attempts, including two bonus points. She scored seven points in the first half alone, succeeding in all six of her raids. Anu contributed six raid points, while captain Nidhi Sharma added five, including three bonus points.

India's defensive unit was equally impressive, with Ritu and Suman registering four tackle points each. The hosts collected 20 raid points and 10 tackle points, while inflicting two All-Outs to establish their superiority.

India took control early, leading 7-3 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. They then produced a decisive 15-4 scoring run, including an All-Out, to head into the break with a commanding 22-7 advantage. Uganda struggled to contain India's raiders, failing to register a single successful tackle in the opening half.

Uganda showed some resistance after the break, edging India 7-6 on raid points. However, India's second All-Out with less than 10 minutes remaining effectively sealed the contest.

For Uganda, Nakayongo Shirat was the leading scorer with 11 points, accounting for most of her team's attacking contribution. India's defence restricted the rest of the Ugandan raiders to just four points combined.

Sakshi finished the six-match championship with an impressive 52 points, underlining her importance to India's title-winning campaign.

Expressing her happiness after the victory, Sakshi said the gold medal had created a euphoric atmosphere within the team. She also highlighted the importance of international competitions in helping kabaddi grow globally, adding that the experience would benefit young players and that other teams had shown considerable improvement.
