India clinches twin golds, one silver at Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka

India’s compound archers delivered a memorable performance at the 23rd Asian Archery Championships 2025, securing two gold medals and one silver on a productive day at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event, organised by the Asian Archery Confederation under the aegis of World Archery Asia, is being held from November 9 to 15 with the participation of around 250 archers from 30 countries.

The Indian contingent of 16 archers eight men and eight women competed across recurve and compound categories. Archers from South Korea, China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, and host Bangladesh are also part of the championship, which features individual, team, and mixed events in both formats.

India’s top performer Jyothi Surekha Vennam once again spearheaded the country’s campaign, winning two gold medals one in the compound women’s team event and another in the mixed team category.

In the compound women’s team final, the Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Deepshikha, and Prithika Pradeep overcame a strong South Korean side comprising Park Yerin, Oh Yoohyun, and Jungyoon Park by 236–234. The Indian team maintained remarkable composure and precision, shooting near-perfect ends of 59 (10, 10, 10, 10, 9, 10) and 58 (10, 10, 10, 9, 10, 9) to secure the gold medal.

The second gold came in the compound mixed team event, where Jyothi Surekha Vennam, partnered with Priyansh, defeated Kazakhstan with a score of 159–155 in the final. Their consistent coordination and accurate execution under pressure enabled India to clinch a comfortable win.

In the compound men’s team event, the Indian trio of Abhishek Verma, Priyansh, and Rishabh Yadav settled for the silver medal after being edged out by South Korea 233–235 in a closely fought final. Despite the narrow loss, the Indian men displayed high-quality shooting throughout the tournament, contributing significantly to India’s overall medal tally.

The championships have witnessed intense competition among Asia’s finest archers, with South Korea and China leading the standings alongside India. The event has been regarded as a key continental qualifier for upcoming global competitions, offering valuable international exposure to emerging talent.

India’s compound archery program, which has seen rapid progress in recent years, continues to be driven by the experience of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma. Jyothi’s double gold in Dhaka has further consolidated her position as one of Asia’s most successful compound archers.

The Bangabandhu National Stadium, a historic sporting venue in central Dhaka, has been hosting all championship rounds, including the finals, under strict international standards set by the Asian Archery Confederation. The competition will conclude on November 15, with remaining events in the recurve category scheduled over the next two days.

With two golds and one silver already secured, India’s compound archers have ensured one of their strongest continental finishes in recent editions of the Asian Championships. Their performance has underscored the country’s growing stature in the sport, particularly in compound events, where Indian shooters have consistently challenged traditional Asian powerhouses such as South Korea and China.
