India, China Industry Leaders Discuss Trade, Tech Cooperation in Shanghai
Industry representatives from India and China on Friday held discussions in Shanghai to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation , focusing on trade, investment, manufacturing and technology partnerships amid evolving global supply chain dynamics.
The interaction, hosted by the Consulate General of India in Shanghai, brought together a delegation from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) led by president Anant Goenka and senior Chinese business leaders.
Addressing the gathering, India’s Consul General in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur , highlighted India’s economic transformation under the government’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. He said India’s focus on resilient supply chains, digital public infrastructure, ease of doing business and manufacturing competitiveness through Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes has opened new opportunities for global partnerships.
Mathur noted that Eastern China , known for its advanced manufacturing ecosystem and innovation capabilities, could become a key partner for India in scaling investments, co-developing industrial ecosystems and expanding technology cooperation.
The discussions covered sectors including advanced manufacturing, green technologies, healthcare, infrastructure and the digital economy . Participants also stressed the need for stronger institutional industry linkages and sustained business-to-business engagement.
India and China share one of Asia’s largest trading relationships, with bilateral trade remaining robust despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and competition in strategic sectors such as technology, manufacturing and supply chains . While China continues to be a major manufacturing power, India is positioning itself as an alternative global production and investment destination through reforms and infrastructure expansion.
The meeting reflected efforts by businesses in both countries to maintain economic engagement and explore practical cooperation despite broader strategic differences.
