India celebrates first-ever online education day

In a step that underscores the accelerating shift toward digital learning in India, College Vidya celebrated the first-ever Online Education Day on October 25. The initiative aims to recognise the educators, learners, and institutions propelling the transformation of higher education through technology.

College Vidya has designated its Foundation Day as Online Education Day to highlight the growing importance of accessible and credible online learning. The organisation plans to expand the observance into a sector-wide annual event, with the long-term goal of securing official recognition from regulatory bodies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

For its inaugural edition, online universities across the country were invited to participate by sharing video messages, success stories, and collaborative scholarship initiatives. Institutions were encouraged to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening learner-centric education models.

Reinforcing its mission of inclusivity, College Vidya announced that it has disbursed Rs 4.7 crore in financial assistance to date for meritorious and financially disadvantaged students. The company says the support aligns with India’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) goal by widening access to higher education.

“Online education has become the great equalizer, opening doors for millions who once stood outside the classroom,” said Rohit Gupta, Founder and COO of College Vidya. “If electricity and the internet can reach remote corners of the country, then quality education must too.”

As part of the celebrations, the platform launched a nationwide “Learner Stories” campaign, featuring videos from students on how digital education reshaped their lives. Select learners were also surprised with celebratory cakes.

College Vidya additionally highlighted its recent initiative offering a 50 percent subsidy to transgender learners enrolling through its partner universities.

Founded in 2019, the Noida-based edtech platform has supported more than 1.25 lakh learners and partnered with over 100 UGC-approved institutions. It aims to further strengthen trust and transparency in online higher education through its Compare, Counsel, Career, and Community framework.
