India Carpet Expo 2026 to Use BRICS Outreach to Expand Global Carpet Trade
India Carpet Expo 2026 in Bhadohi is shaping up as a push to expand India’s global carpet trade, with the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) seeking to turn participation and BRICS summit-related engagements into new opportunities.
Scheduled for October 4-7, the expo is expected to bring around 400 carpet exporters from 56 countries, alongside about 350 representatives of carpet manufacturing companies. Nearly 300 Indian manufacturers and exporters from states are also expected to showcase products and seek orders.
The scale is significant for an industry that recorded US$1.54 billion in carpet exports in FY2024-25, up from US$1.39 billion in FY2023-24. Government data shows exports rising from US1.541 billion during the period. The United States remained the dominant market, accounting for US$901.55 million of India’s FY2024-25 carpet exports, excluding silk carpets, underscoring the sector’s strong presence in the US market as well as its exposure to a single major destination.
Against this backdrop, CEPC plans to use India’s BRICS summit hosting in October to widen commercial links with member countries. CEPC Vice-Chairman Aslam Mehboob said a BRICS delegation is expected to visit Varanasi during programmes. Council representatives intend to meet visiting delegations, present India’s handmade carpets and floor coverings, and explore commercial partnerships.
The strategy could help Indian manufacturers build direct relationships with overseas buyers, identify new sourcing opportunities and diversify markets beyond established destinations. Engagement with BRICS representatives could also open channels for repeat orders, collaborations and greater visibility for India’s carpet clusters.
The expo’s participation strengthens that effort. By bringing foreign buyers and Indian producers together, it can create business links while allowing exporters to understand changing consumer preferences, sourcing requirements and market opportunities.
For India, the objective extends beyond securing orders. CEPC wants such engagements to reinforce the country’s image as a reliable sourcing hub for handmade carpets and floor coverings. Combining Bhadohi’s manufacturing base with BRICS-linked outreach could give Indian exporters a platform to pursue markets, stronger partnerships and sustained export growth.
