At a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the “Situation in Afghanistan,” India strongly criticised Pakistan over its use of the term “Fitna al Hindustan,” calling it “officially sponsored misinformation and disinformation dressed in religious terminology.”

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, said Pakistan’s official notifications directing state agencies to use the label for groups within its own territory amounted to state-backed propaganda aimed at distorting facts and sustaining hostility with India. He described the narrative as part of an “organised factory of hate” allegedly driven by Pakistan’s establishment to maintain internal control by projecting external enemies and diverting attention from domestic political and economic challenges.

Parvathaneni further alleged that recent constitutional and military changes in Pakistan reflect a “de facto military consolidation of power,” referring to the creation of the Chief of Defence Forces post and the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir.

India also condemned Pakistan’s reported military airstrikes in Afghanistan, saying they have caused large-scale civilian casualties and widespread suffering . The envoy said such actions cannot be justified under counter-terrorism, adding that “dressing up a massacre as a military operation does not absolve responsibility.” He also criticised Pakistan for what he called “hypocrisy in invoking international law and religious solidarity” while conducting strikes during sensitive periods, including Ramadan.

The exchange comes amid continued international concern over Pakistan’s military operations in Afghanistan and their humanitarian impact. India reiterated that such actions undermine regional stability and violate Afghanistan’s sovereignty, while calling for stronger global scrutiny of cross-border violence and its consequences for civilians.

Parvathaneni concluded that blaming neighbours for internal failures is a long-standing practice and said attempts to mislead the international community through such narratives would ultimately fail.
