With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup fast approaching, India Women will begin their final phase of preparation with a crucial three-match T20I series against England starting on Thursday in Chelmsford. The series is expected to play a key role in helping both teams finalise combinations and regain momentum ahead of the global tournament, which begins on June 12 in England and Wales.

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur , India arrive in England after a mixed run of results during their World Cup build-up. The side started strongly by completing a dominant 5-0 clean sweep over Sri Lanka at home before scripting history in Australia with a landmark 2-1 T20I series victory , their first bilateral series win there in nearly a decade.

The Australia triumph was seen as a major step forward for a team that has often struggled in overseas conditions. India’s aggressive batting intent, particularly from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma , stood out, while the bowling unit showed improved discipline under pressure.

However, the momentum faded during the subsequent South Africa tour, where India suffered a disappointing 1-4 series defeat . The losses exposed several concerns ahead of the World Cup, especially the lack of middle-order consistency and the inability to close out games in pressure situations. India’s pace attack also struggled for control during crucial phases of matches.

The England series now offers the visitors a final opportunity to address those shortcomings. With English conditions expected to assist seam bowling, India are likely to depend heavily on Renuka Singh Thakur , Arundhati Reddy and Kranti Goud . The management could also hand youngster Nandini Sharma an opportunity after her impressive performances in the Women’s Premier League.

India have also received timely boosts with the return of Yastika Bhatia and Radha Yadav after injury layoffs. Bhatia strengthens the wicketkeeping department alongside Richa Ghosh , while Radha adds valuable experience to a spin attack featuring Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil .

India will take confidence from their previous England tour, where they secured a historic 3-2 T20I series win on English soil. England, meanwhile, enter the series after a strong showing against New Zealand but remain without regular captain Nat Sciver-Brunt , who is recovering from a calf injury. The hosts, however, have welcomed back experienced batter Danni Wyatt-Hodge following maternity leave.

The opening match will begin at 11 PM IST , with both teams aiming to build rhythm before the World Cup begins.
