India is preparing an outcome-driven roadmap aimed at delivering concrete results at the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS), scheduled for May 31 in New Delhi, marking a major revival of the engagement after more than a decade.

The summit will be held in collaboration with the African Union Commission , bringing together leaders from across the African continent as well as representatives of regional bodies. Preparatory meetings, including a Senior Officials Meeting on May 28 and Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on May 29 , will set the stage for final negotiations on key deliverables.

Themed “IA SPIRIT: India Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation,” the summit will focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, agriculture, health, education, climate action, defence, energy, space technology, critical minerals, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, fintech, and supply chain resilience .

Officials said the emphasis is on moving beyond broad commitments to tangible outcomes and implementation frameworks , aligning India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision with Africa’s Agenda 2063 , which prioritises industrialisation, integration, and sustainable development.

India is also positioning the summit as a signal of Global South solidarity and geopolitical stability , with External Affairs Ministry officials describing it as a “message of reliability in uncertain times.”

The IAFS, established in 2008, is the apex institutional platform for India-Africa engagement and has previously enabled major expansions in development assistance and capacity-building partnerships.

India has expanded its diplomatic footprint to 46 missions and 17 new embassies since 2018 , while trade with Africa reached USD 81.99 billion in 2024–25 , making India the continent’s fourth-largest trading partner.

Cumulative Indian investment in Africa is estimated at around USD 80 billion (1996–2025) , alongside over 190 Lines of Credit worth more than USD 10 billion supporting infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and connectivity projects across 41 countries.

The summit is expected to mark a shift toward implementation-focused, technology-driven and long-term strategic cooperation between India and Africa.
