Indi Lime from Karnataka makes export debut to Oman with 3 MT consignment

India’s GI-tagged Indi Lime, grown in Vijayapura district of Karnataka, has achieved a key export milestone with its first-ever shipment to Oman , marking another step forward for Indian agricultural exports.

According to officials, a 3-metric-tonne consignment of Indi Lime was exported to Oman on December 19, 2025, responding to rising demand from Gulf markets for premium citrus produce. The shipment reflects growing international recognition of India’s Geographical Indication (GI)-certified agricultural products and their unique quality.

The export is also being seen as an early trade gain under the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to boost bilateral trade, including farm and food products. Industry stakeholders believe improved market access and streamlined trade procedures under the CEPA are encouraging exporters to explore newer destinations in the Gulf region.

Indi Lime, known for its high juice content, distinctive aroma and longer shelf life, has emerged as a niche export product in recent months. With the Oman shipment, total exports of Indi Lime have now crossed approximately 12 metric tonnes , including earlier consignments to the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates .

Exporters and agriculture officials say the successful Oman consignment could open doors to larger and more regular shipments to West Asian markets, benefiting farmers in north Karnataka and strengthening India’s position in the global fresh fruit trade.
