Income Tax Department Mumbai Holds Outreach On Income-tax Act 2025
The Income Tax Department, Mumbai conducted an outreach programme on April 29, 2026 at Mulund as part of a nationwide awareness initiative on the Income-tax Act, 2025 , which came into effect from April 1, 2026. The programme was organised by the offices of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT)-2 and the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (PCIT)-4, Mumbai, and witnessed participation from over 75 stakeholders, including taxpayers, chartered accountants, salaried individuals, and corporate tax professionals.
Addressing the session, Additional Commissioner of Income-tax Range 4(3) Akhtar Hussain Ansari said the new Act aims at reducing compliance burden, lowering costs, and improving clarity in tax administration, while making the system more transparent and taxpayer-friendly . Officials explained that the Income-tax Act, 2025 is a comprehensive structural overhaul of the earlier framework, focused on simplification rather than changes in tax rates or core policy.
The presentations highlighted the introduction of a unified “Tax Year” concept , replacing the earlier distinction between Assessment Year and Previous Year, a change expected to reduce confusion and improve consistency in reporting. The Act also brings rationalisation and consolidation of provisions , removing redundant sections, explanations, and repetitive clauses that earlier added complexity. Officials noted that legal drafting has been significantly simplified through clear language, tabular formats, and formula-based presentation , improving readability and ease of interpretation.
It was further stated that the Act reorganises provisions into logically grouped sections to improve navigation and understanding, with the objective of minimising litigation and reducing interpretational disputes . The new framework also strengthens alignment with digital governance and technology-driven compliance systems , enabling faster processing and more efficient tax administration.
The outreach programme also showcased taxpayer facilitation tools, including the AI-based chatbot “Kar Saathi” , parallel reading utilities on the official portal, and enhanced digital learning resources such as FAQs and brochures aimed at improving self-service compliance and awareness . Officials said the Act represents a broader shift towards a more digitally integrated and efficient tax system , supporting ease of doing business while ensuring smoother compliance.
The programme received an encouraging response from participants. The Income Tax Department, Mumbai said similar outreach initiatives will continue across the city in the coming months to ensure smooth implementation and better understanding of the new law .
