Include OBCs in Census, Demands Former Minister Srinivas Goud
A round table meeting was held at the Somajiguda Press Club under the aegis of various political parties and caste organisations, protesting the Centre’s refusal to enumerate Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the first phase of the upcoming Census . Former Minister V. Srinivas Goud attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Goud criticised the Central government for counting only SC and ST households while categorising others under a general bracket, calling it a serious injustice to OBCs . He expressed concern that despite the country having a BC Prime Minister , there is no dedicated ministry for OBCs at the Centre and adequate budget allocations are also lacking. He alleged that governments have been using BCs merely as a vote bank , without contributing to their political advancement .
He emphasised that a caste-based census is essential to ensure rights and benefits proportionate to the OBC population .
Former MP V. Hanumantha Rao , retired IAS officer Chiranjeevulu , BC JAC Chairman Jajula Srinivas Goud , and other BC leaders participated in the meeting. The leaders unanimously resolved to continue their struggle until justice is delivered to OBCs.
