In 127th ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi blends culture, ecology, and national pride

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 127th episode of his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’, on Sunday urged citizens to celebrate India’s cultural heritage while embracing sustainability, inclusivity, and social responsibility. Addressing the nation amid the festive season, he extended greetings for Diwali and Chhath Puja, calling them reflections of the deep connection between culture, nature, and society.

The Prime Minister described Chhath Puja as “the most beautiful form of India’s social unity” and lauded the devotion of women who observe the Chhath Vrat. He emphasised that such festivals highlight the harmony between faith, environmental respect, and community life.

Inclusive Progress and Grassroots Initiatives

Referring to recent developments, PM Modi mentioned ‘Operation Sindoor’, which, he said, filled the nation with pride by bringing peace and progress to areas once affected by Maoist violence. He noted that “the lamps of joy now glow even in regions that once faced darkness,” symbolising progress through unity and resilience.

The Prime Minister encouraged citizens to support ‘Vocal for Local’ initiatives by purchasing indigenous products during the festive season and appreciated the positive public response to his earlier appeal for reducing edible oil consumption.

Highlighting innovative examples of civic participation, he praised Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh for its “Garbage Café” model, where people receive meals in exchange for plastic waste, promoting both cleanliness and dignity. He also commended Bengaluru-based engineer Kapil Sharma, who has rejuvenated 40 wells and six lakes through public and corporate collaboration. In Gujarat, he acknowledged large-scale mangrove plantations along the Dholera and Kutch coasts, which have revived marine ecosystems and supported local livelihoods. Urging people to contribute to environmental protection, he reiterated his call to participate in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and plant trees across the country.

Indigenous Breeds and National Service

PM Modi revisited his earlier appeal to adopt indigenous dog breeds and commended their growing role in national security. He noted that the Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are training breeds such as Rampur Hounds, Mudhol Hounds, Kombai, and Pandikona for operational duties, praising their courage and performance in detecting explosives and safeguarding the nation.

National Unity and Cultural Commemorations

Inviting citizens to participate in the Ekta Diwas celebrations on October 31, PM Modi encouraged people to attend the parade and Run for Unity at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. He said such participation reinforces national integration and the spirit of collective responsibility.

He also announced that November 7, 2025, will mark 150 years since the composition of ‘Vande Mataram’ by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Calling it a timeless song that evokes patriotism and unity, he invited citizens to share suggestions using the hashtag #VandeMataram150 to celebrate the milestone.

Cultural Awareness and Tribal Heritage

The Prime Minister highlighted the growing interest among youth in Sanskrit, mentioning young content creators like Yash Salunke and sisters Kamala and Janhavi, who are using digital media to make the language engaging.

Paying tribute to tribal freedom fighters, he remembered Komaram Bheem and Bhagwan Birsa Munda for their courage and contributions to India’s freedom struggle. He announced that November 15 would be observed as Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas, honouring tribal heroes who shaped India’s identity and inspired future generations.

Concluding his address, PM Modi invited citizens to share stories of local innovations and community service for upcoming editions of Mann Ki Baat. He urged people to participate in campaigns like ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and celebrations such as #VandeMataram150 and Run for Unity, which embody the collective spirit of New India.
