A fierce spell of summer heat is tightening its grip over Telangana, with weather agencies warning of prolonged and intense heatwave conditions across the state over the coming week. Authorities have issued a high alert as temperatures continue to rise sharply, signalling a challenging period ahead for residents.

Meteorologists say the ongoing surge in temperatures is being driven by dry winds, clear skies, and larger climatic influences such as El Niño , which are accelerating heat buildup earlier than usual. As a result, this summer is expected to record above-normal heatwave days , raising concerns about both public health and infrastructure stress.

The worst-affected regions are expected to be northern and eastern Telangana , where heatwave conditions are likely to be both more intense and longer in duration . Districts including Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityal, and Mancherial in the north, along with Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Mulugu in the east, are forecast to witness temperatures nearing or touching 45°C . These regions are particularly vulnerable due to their inland geography, dry land conditions, and lack of moderating weather influences.

In comparison, southern and central districts such as Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Gadwal will also face severe heat, with temperatures ranging between 41°C and 43°C , creating harsh and uncomfortable conditions, though slightly less extreme than the northern belt.

Hyderabad is also expected to endure a difficult week, with temperatures hovering between 40°C and 42°C . The combination of dry weather, strong solar radiation, and low humidity levels is likely to make daytime conditions especially oppressive, increasing discomfort across the city.

Experts point out that the absence of pre-monsoon showers and persistent dry weather patterns are preventing any meaningful cooling. While isolated thunderstorms may occur in some pockets, they are unlikely to bring widespread or lasting relief from the heat.

Authorities have urged people to take precautions, particularly during peak hours between 12 PM and 4 PM , when temperatures are at their highest. Residents are advised to stay indoors as much as possible, remain well-hydrated with water and natural fluids, and wear light, breathable clothing. Special care is being recommended for elderly individuals, children, and outdoor workers , who are at greater risk of heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and heatstroke.

With forecasts indicating that these conditions may persist through April and extend into May, officials remain on alert, closely monitoring the evolving situation and preparing to issue further advisories if the heatwave intensifies further.
