IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain in 10 Tamil Nadu Districts Till June 12

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu from June 10 to June 12 , driven by the advancing southwest monsoon , while warning that hot and humid weather is likely to persist across several other parts of the state.

According to the latest bulletin issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, heavy rain is expected in Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Kanyakumari , and the Western Ghats regions of Tirunelveli district over the next three days.

The weather office said that although rainfall activity is expected to increase in western and hilly districts, high daytime temperatures combined with elevated humidity levels could lead to uncomfortable weather conditions in north interior Tamil Nadu and coastal districts during the same period.

Temperature levels remained high across parts of the state on Monday. Cuddalore recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40.7 degrees Celsius , while Chennai registered 40.4 degrees Celsius , reflecting the prevailing heat and humidity despite the monsoon's progress.

Rainfall has already been reported in several areas. During the past 24 hours, Oothu in Tirunelveli district received 11 cm of rainfall , while Upasi in Coimbatore district recorded 9 cm , indicating strengthening monsoon activity over western Tamil Nadu.

For Chennai , the IMD has forecast hot and humid conditions , with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms during the evening or night hours over the coming days.

The latest forecast comes as the southwest monsoon continues to influence weather patterns across southern India, bringing widespread rainfall to parts of Tamil Nadu while heat stress persists in other regions.
