
IMD announces Applications for 134 Project Scientist, last date to apply 14th Dec
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a recruitment notification for 134 vacancies across multiple project-based positions, including Project Scientist, Scientific Assistant and Admin Assistant roles. The online application process opened on November 24, 2025, and candidates are allowed to submit their applications until December 14, 2025, through the official website mausam.imd.gov.in . The notification has been issued under Advertisement No. 02/2025 IMD.
According to the notification, the recruitment is being carried out for six categories of posts. One post has been notified for Project Scientist E, 13 for Project Scientist III, 29 for Project Scientist II, 64 for Project Scientist I, 25 for Scientific Assistant and one for Admin Assistant. The salary ranges from ₹29,200 to ₹1,23,100 per month, along with HRA, depending on the position.
For the post of Project Scientist E, a Master’s degree or B.Tech qualification is required, and preference is given to candidates with a Doctorate or M.Tech degree. Eleven years of relevant experience is also required, and the upper age limit has been set at 50 years. For Project Scientist III, a Master’s degree or B.Tech with seven years of experience is required, while the upper age limit has been fixed at 45 years. Project Scientist II applicants must have at least three years of experience, and the upper age limit has been placed at 40 years. For Project Scientist I, a Master’s degree or B.Tech is required, and the maximum age for applicants has been set at 35 years.
For the position of Scientific Assistant, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Electronics or Telecommunications. For the Admin Assistant post, a Bachelor’s degree along with basic computer skills is required. The maximum age limit for both these posts has been kept at 30 years. Age relaxations for reserved categories will be provided as per Government of India rules.
It has been stated in the notification that the application fee has not been specified and applicants are advised to check the official website for any updates. All eligibility conditions, including educational qualifications and age limits, must be fulfilled by the closing date of the application process.
The selection process will involve shortlisting based on eligibility and qualifications, followed by interviews for the shortlisted candidates. No TA or DA will be provided for attending the interview. Final selections will be based solely on interview performance.
Applicants have been advised to apply separately for each post they are eligible for and to upload all required documents in the prescribed format. Incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected. Candidates are instructed to keep scanned copies of their certificates, photographs and signatures ready before applying. All updates regarding the recruitment process will be communicated through the official website and email. Shortlisted candidates will be required to produce original documents during the interview for verification.
The IMD recruitment drive is being viewed as an opportunity for candidates with scientific and technical backgrounds to contribute to meteorological research and national weather services. With multiple levels of scientist posts offered, the openings are expected to attract a large number of qualified applicants from science, engineering and technology fields.
