IMA visits Turakapalem to address health crisis

A specialized team from the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has visited Turakapalem village in Guntur district to address a public health crisis following a series of unexplained deaths. The visit was aimed at allaying public fears and taking swift action to contain the situation.

The team, led by APMC Chairman Dr. Srihari, first attempted to visit the hospital of an RMP (Rural Medical Practitioner) named Chittibabu in the nearby village of Pedapalakaluru. Finding him unavailable, they proceeded directly to Turakapalem to inspect the ongoing medical camp and speak with healthcare personnel on the ground.

Addressing the media, Dr. Srihari confirmed that the medical camp has been operational since September 2 and is scheduled to run until September 17. He revealed that a local RMP had been administering high doses of antibiotics, a practice that is well beyond their permitted scope. "RMPs are only authorized to provide basic care, and any breach of these regulations will be dealt with strictly," he warned. He also assured the public that comprehensive medical tests have been conducted on the Chief Minister's directive and that the situation is now under control, urging residents not to panic.

Guntur District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr. Vijayalakshmi reinforced this message, confirming that experienced doctors are overseeing the camp and closely monitoring the health of residents. She reiterated the health department's commitment to providing proper treatment and preventing further risks to the community. Officials also noted that a key part of their strategy is to conduct widespread awareness campaigns to educate villagers about the dangers of relying on unqualified medical practitioners. The state government is maintaining continuous surveillance to ensure public health and safety.
