Illegal Stay: Goa Deports Nine Foreigners, Seven Booked for Visa Overstay
Goa authorities have intensified their crackdown on foreigners staying illegally in the coastal state, with nine foreign nationals deported in May and seven more booked for overstaying their visas during a recent verification drive, officials said on Friday.
According to Goa Police and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) , the deported individuals included five Ugandan nationals, three Russians, and one Nigerian citizen . Authorities said proposals have also been initiated to blacklist the deported foreigners under relevant immigration categories to prevent their re-entry into India.
The latest enforcement drive was conducted in Mandrem and other parts of the North Goa coastal belt , areas that witness a large influx of foreign tourists and long-term visitors. During the operation, officials identified seven more foreigners staying beyond the validity of their visas. They include five Russian nationals, one Ukrainian, and one South African national .
Officials confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against all seven individuals under immigration and visa regulations. The FRRO said the crackdown forms part of an ongoing statewide verification campaign aimed at monitoring foreigners staying in hotels, rented apartments, guest houses, and private accommodations.
Additional reports said that 27 foreign nationals have already been deported from Goa so far in 2026 , indicating a significant rise in enforcement activity this year. In 2025, FRRO Goa deported 120 overstaying foreigners , including 29 Bangladeshi nationals .
Authorities have repeatedly stated that verification drives will continue across Goa’s tourist hubs to ensure strict compliance with Indian immigration laws and to curb illegal stays by foreign nationals.
