IKEA to open sixth store in India with Pune outlet
Swedish furniture retailer IKEA is set to expand its presence in India with the opening of its sixth store, located in the Phoenix Marketcity mall in Pune's Viman Nagar. The company has leased a 37,529 sq ft space from Vamona Developers for a period of 59 months, with an initial monthly rent of ₹38 lakh, increasing to ₹42.70 lakh from the fourth year. The store will occupy the ground floor of the mall, which is managed by Phoenix Mills.
IKEA first entered the Indian market in August 2018 with a store in Hyderabad and has since expanded to Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai, Worli (Mumbai), and Delhi. The Pune store, designed in a “city store” format, will cater to urban consumers by offering convenient access to a wide range of home furnishing solutions. The outlet is expected to serve the growing demand for affordable and stylish furniture in a city that hosts numerous IT companies and global capability centers.
What sets IKEA apart from local furniture retailers like Bantia or Anu Furniture is its global design philosophy, combining Scandinavian minimalism, functionality, and affordability. Unlike traditional stores that often offer pre-assembled or semi-custom furniture, IKEA specializes in modular, self-assembly products that reduce costs and provide flexibility for urban households. The store will feature not just furniture but also home décor, kitchenware, lighting solutions, textiles, and even Swedish food items, offering a one-stop lifestyle experience. Its experiential store layout allows customers to explore fully furnished room setups, try products firsthand, and enjoy amenities such as cafes and children’s play areas, making shopping more engaging and immersive.
IKEA’s success in India is attributed to its ability to blend global design standards with local preferences, ensuring that products meet the needs of Indian consumers while maintaining affordability and sustainability. The brand’s strong omni-channel presence, with easy online ordering, home delivery, and room-planning tools, further enhances customer convenience. With the Pune store, IKEA continues to reinforce its position as a modern, customer-centric brand that is redefining home furnishing in urban India.
